The Chicago Center for the Origins of Life at the University of Chicago has announced the opening of applications for its Origins of Life Postdoctoral Fellowship, with appointments beginning in Fall 2027.
The fellowship is designed to support exceptional early-career researchers pursuing innovative, interdisciplinary research on the origins, evolution, and future of life in the universe. Successful applicants will join a collaborative environment that brings together scientists from astronomy and astrophysics, chemistry, geophysical sciences, physics, and related disciplines.
Fellows will be appointed to renewable one-year terms for up to four years and will receive a competitive salary, benefits, and an independent research fund to support their scientific activities and professional development.
Research opportunities span a broad range of topics, including prebiotic chemistry, the emergence and evolution of the first protocells on Earth, and the formation and characterisation of potentially habitable environments both within our Solar System and around other stars. The programme is particularly interested in researchers who wish to work across traditional disciplinary boundaries and develop expertise at the intersection of multiple scientific fields.
The Chicago Center for the Origins of Life aims to foster a vibrant interdisciplinary community dedicated to addressing fundamental questions about how life emerged on Earth and where life may exist elsewhere in the universe. Through collaborations across departments and career stages, the centre supports pioneering research and training in origins-related sciences.
