Eligibility Period: July 2024 – June 2025 

The Origins Federation is soliciting nominations of outstanding recent PhD graduates. The annual PhD Prize in Origins of Life research is awarded for the best Ph.D. thesis-related work by a graduate student from one of the four Origins Federation institutions. Each institution will nominate a Ph.D. thesis student for the given eligibility period of July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, determined by the date of the completed or expected PhD defense, or of submission of the PhD thesis. 

The winner will be selected in June by the Origins Federation board and will be invited to present a featured talk at the Annual Meeting of the Origins Federation in September. 

General Guidelines & Deadline
Eligible origins of life research work is broadly defined by the Key Questions document on the Origins Federation website: https://www.origins-federation.com/page/research

Each institution will nominate to the Origins Federation one candidate by June 4, 2025, by sending:
(1) the student’s CV with list of publications,
(2) a 1-page nomination letter by the PhD supervisor or an institution faculty, making the case with relevant arguments, and
(3) the student’s PhD thesis summary/abstract.

Former students who have successfully defended their Ph.D. thesis may no longer be at their home institution.
